FightSMA and the Toy Industry Foundation are pleased to announce Fighter Mom™ Friday, May 9, 2008. The inaugural, day-long workshop will take place at the breathtaking New York Palace Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.
Fighter Mom™ Friday is a celebration for all mothers (and others), whose children face any kind of disease, challenge or disability. It will be a day that provides a special service to moms and other caregivers who need tools to become truly proactive for their children. To kick off Mother's Day weekend, FightSMA and the Toy Industry Foundation are honored to provide these special women with a day of their very own - a day to honor the Fighter Mom™. This day will be celebrated year after year.
The workshop will be a fun, educational and productive day. FightSMA and the Toy Industry Foundation have collaborated to provide a dynamic agenda for the day, including presentations, a celebrity guest speaker, panelists and toy demonstrations.

2nd SMArt Tour in Chelsea

On Saturday, November 3rd, 2007, FightSMA will be hosting a walking tour of galleries in Chelsea. The event begins at 2:00 PM at Rare Art Properties, 521 West 26th Street, and ends at 4:00 PM.
This event will be a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We will have an opportunity to go behind the scenes and see how a gallery works. Each Gallery director will speak about the style of the emerging artist featured in the current exhibition. Children are welcome.
Suggested Contribution: $25 per person.

SMArt Tour in Chelsea
On Saturday, October 28, 2006, Andrew’s Buddies of New York held its first art galleries walking tour to benefit SMA research. Organized and orchestrated by Kathy Tompkins, an SMA mom, the day began with a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception at Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts, the first of seven contemporary art galleries in the Chelsea area that were on the tour.
To kick it off, Kathleen Cullen, owner and director of the gallery, greeted the group and introduced Merrill Steiger and John Findysz, the artists she was currently exhibiting in her space. The artists spoke briefly about their vision, inspiration, styles and techniques manifested in their unique and interesting works. The group then traveled to Mixed Greens, Lombard-Fried Projects, Gladstone Gallery, Sikkema Jenkins & Co, Jack Shainman Gallery, and 511 Gallery; all of which were within a few blocks of one another in the Chelsea neighborhood, and featured contemporary art in a breadth of media.
It was fantastic for newcomers to the gallery scene and art lovers alike to hear the individual gallery directors, and in many cases the artists themselves, speak about their works and give a behind the scenes peak into the art world. The first Chelsea Art Galleries Walking Tour to support SMA was an outstanding success—raising money and SMA awareness and offering New Yorkers a fun and interesting way to spend their Saturday afternoon!
